Thanks for stopping by! I guess I missed meeting you - I was class of '65, but was in Spokane most of my Freshman year. I'll bet my husband remembers you, because your name sounds familiar.

I think I DID know that priest!

Agree about the bar owners. Back in the 90's I got behind bringing fireworks back to PR for the 4th of July. They were some of my strongest supporters. One bar owner put up a jar and said anyone who said a cuss word had to throw in a quarter. She told me about one customer who stuck $5 in the jar and said "Now, can I say what I want?"

I lived, taught, and coached at PRHS from fall of '59 through Summer of '62. I always considered PR as my second home town. There were some real characters around that time. There was a priest who would come into Popeye's, ask to see the cigars, pick out several and leave saying"charge 'em to God." You had to love him. Every time we needed equipment or outfits for players at PRHS, the bar owners always came up with most of the money for the needed equipment. I have wonderful memories of the kids, the adults, and the teachers we had at that time.

It is no coincidence that the four board members who resigned and then took all of the shleter's animals in the dark of the night had just received a letter from an attorney telling them that they were in the process of being sued for violating the rights of their members by violating the shelter's bylaws as well as the Idaho statutes that govern non-profits. Those board members were not indemnified - meaning they were going to get sued personally, and could not use the shelter's money to hire an attorney to fight it. The only way to save themselves was to quit the board. There were three family members on the board and they and their friend, Marcie, were running the shelter like a private, family run hoarding operation. They took any and all animals in, cramming them into every nook and cranny, but made it very difficult to adopt one of the animals out. They did not take the animals from the shelter because they thought it was best for the animals. They took the animals because they are controlling animal hoarders who feel that they are the ONLY people who know what is best for the animals. They hoarded the cats and they bullied the members. Good riddance!! Now people can actually adopt an animal at PRAR and not get turned down for no apparent reason.

Sounds to me it was an inside job. Id look in to all those members who tried to over throw what you and Cathy Reynolds and Sally started. Or anyone who they kicked out of the membership. Anyway as much as I disagree with all those people that run that place that doesnt matter it should be all about the animals. So good luck hope they all find some good homes to go to.

I also wanted to give Kudos to "The Loft". It a great place to meet with friends and have a coffee and some chat time. The atmosphere is great, the staff is honest and reliable and there is meeting room in the back.

Book club? MOPS group? Something to thing about.

Willow Wok has been open for a while now here in Priest River. The food is great and the staff is so friendly. Now every time my hubby says, "let's go out to eat," my kids all yell...."WILLOW WOK".

Yes I can remember some of the old days. The city was really booming then,a different kind of people back then. We should perserve the history of this town and enjoy what we have left.

Yes Jack, I agree that we need more businesses that hire a number of people. But don't forget that each person who takes the risk of opening his or her own business (people like YOU) are creating their own jobs, and even if the business is small, hiring a person or two.

I have long thought that Priest River business people needed to join forces and do things that would cause the tourists passing through to drop some money here...

When I was active in Chamber I talked about it a lot, but my ideas fell on deaf ears. However, I still think it's something that would work.

I have lots of low-cost / high income ideas gained from travel and seeing what other communities have done. But... can't do them alone.

Yes, you are correct, the city does look clean, and changing all the time. But clean, and beauty isnt bringing in the real jobs, all were getting in Priest River is more and more coffee shops wine joints, and second hand stores. How many do we need. Why not try to bring in real paying jobs, that pay families enough to put food on the table and buy homes, and send the kids to school.
