Formerly River Pigs Inn, the new Priest River Inn is causing a stir in town.

While I haven’t yet had the pleasure of dining there, I keep running into people who have – and they tell me I’d better schedule an evening out to enjoy it.

Not only are they telling me the food tastes good, my “salad enthusiast” friends report “The salads are big!”

With the roads as slick as they are out my way, I’m not apt to be heading for town at night soon, but I think I’d better put “meeting a friend for lunch” on my to-do list soon.

It sounds like I’m missing out!

With highs today at 14, it would take a dedicated skiier, but I do believe they exist. Snowmobilers are probably also out there zooming around on this sunny Saturday.

For me, staying in and staying warm was fine – except for a quick trip out the door to snap a picture.

One of my followers on Twitter is Ski Idaho – looks like he’s busy keeping people up to date on conditions at ski resorts all over Idaho.

I don’t know his address, but if you come and follow me on Twitter, you’ll find him.

Also… while this really isn’t the prime time of year for house training new puppies, it’s a great time to consider adopting an adult dog (or cat) from a shelter. December is Home for the Holidays month at shelters across the U.S. – a time when all good dogs and cats have only asked Santa for a family to love them.

Oh – one more thing. Now that you’re either a die hard outdoorsman or stuck in the house – it’s a fine time to think about writing that book you’ve been thinking about for the past ten years.

I know, you don’t know where to start, you’re not a great speller, you don’t really have time – all that stuff. That’s why I want to let you in on some good news. There’s a guy named Steve Manning who has written a step by step instruction guide for writing your book in just 14 days – even when you have to get out and go to work every day. I’ve read it, and if I quit writing articles long enough, I’m going to do it.

He helps you develop your ideas so quickly and easily that you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of this yourself. Anyway, he has a report that’s yours just for the asking.  So go here and get it. You have nothing to lose – and perhaps it will result in fame and fortune!

I read Active Rain quite often (the social networking site for everyone involved in the real estate industry) and all of the Realtors who post there agree that staging makes their listings sell faster and for more money. So I’m curious to know if there is even anyone in Priest River who offers this service.

I want to give an unsolicited plug for one of the products he carries: It’s called Schneider’s and it is supposed to be for horses and other livestock, but it’s a great people product as well. Super for quickly healing small cuts and other skin ailments.

If you don’t have livestock so haven’t been there, you need to know that Jack carries some premium cat and dog foods – there’s no need to drive off to Sandpoint or Spokane in search of pet food when you can get the “good stuff” right here in Priest River.

The Houses for Rent section offered the following information:

I found a one bedroom at $400, and another at $525. One said no pets, the other said no smoking and no pets. A one bedroom apartment was listed at $325.

For the most part, 2 bedroom houses were $575 to $600, although one listed as a new home with a garage was $800.  3 bedroom homes were listed at $750 and $800.

The Times on line doesn’t list these – so if you really want to move soon, write me and I’ll send you the phone numbers from the ads…

By the way… Today is National Suspenders Day. It’s also my firstborn’s birthday. Wondering if I should have bought him suspenders for his birthday…

Priest River Animal Rescue dog

It sometimes amazes me that people don’t know that Priest River even HAS an animal rescue. After all, it’s been around for over 6 years and has rescued thousands of dogs and cats.

PRAR has also reunited many lost dogs with their humans – which was my favorite part of being a rescuer. When you see a human excited, relieved, and overjoyed to see the dog who is bouncing up and down at the sight of them… it doesn’t just make your day, it makes your month.

But OK, I can see that if you haven’t lost and found a dog, or if you haven’t gone in search of a dog to adopt, you might not know – if it weren’t for one fact. That is that everyone leaving the East side of the parking lot at the grocery store looks right across the street at Critters… which is the animal rescue facility!

Priest River Animal Rescue is always looking for volunteers – people to help with walking the dogs, cleaning the kennels, and doing fun things like attend adoption events. And since there are always more dogs in need than kennel cages, they need good foster homes.

What else? How about people to help train those unruly “teenage” dogs who are sweet, but need a bit of discipline in their lives. Seems like an awful lot of dogs get booted from their homes when they change from roly-poly pups into gawky, awkward young adults – especially when their people haven’t taken the time to teach them good manners.

PRAR also needs folks to help with the cats – of which there are even more than there are dogs! Those kitties need cuddle time, grooming, and of course… litter box cleaning.

I can’t end this post without repeating the animal rescuers mantra: “Please be kind – spay and neuter your pets. ”
